SeaMonkey Update

Following on from our various articles testing and using the SeaMonkey suite of programs - you can find them here - we wanted to advise you of an important update to the suite that has just been issued.

We tested and used version 1.1.9 of the program and we hope that many of you will have downloaded and enjoyed that version, too.  However, Mozilla have now issued an update to bring SeaMonkey to version 1.1.10 which is available to download from the Mozilla site.  This update is mainly a bug and security fix so it is an important one to download and install.

First of all, go to the link above and, before you download the updated program, be sure to read the 'Release Notes'.  You will find them in the large blue box in the upper section of the page.

Select this document to open it in a fresh browser tab (or Window) and read in particular the section that is titled 'If another Mozilla is installed'.  From this you will see that you should uninstall the existing SeaMonkey application before you install the new one.

You can uninstall SeaMonkey from the Control Panel by choosing 'Add/Remove programs' in Windows XP or, in Windows Vista, the Programs section of the Control Panel and then in small print beneath that 'Uninstall a program'.

When you uninstall you may find that the installer works rather slowly but don't worry, just hang on and it will function correctly.  If you are asked if you wish to delete the SeaMonkey directory, we chose to do this and the uninstall worked correctly without losing the profile information.

After that, just reinstall the new program as a fresh application and you will find that your profile information should still be intact although you may have to reinstall any addons that you had working before the uninstall.

In use, the new version works in just the same way as the old version except that it is safer to use.

Note, in particular, that if you read the System Requirements and were concerned because it does not mention Vista, we can say that we tested it on Vista and, in fact, are still currently running it under Vista where it works perfectly.

SeaMonkey is an excellent internet application suite and this update makes it a safer and better series of programs.
