This is a portal aimed fairly and squarely at women - a fact which will be obvious by a glance at the opening page!
The site is owned by IPC Media, a publishing company and the one behind such quality publications as 'Woman & Home', 'Marie Claire' and other successful magazines giving it a good and honest pedigree.
In style, it accomplishes with ease the transition of a magazine from print to the web so it is quite possible to settle down with a cup of coffee and read the website as you would one of their magazines.
The opening page is long, containing links to articles and sections with individual categories accessible from large and clearly marked tabs at the top of the page.
The content is aimed, so far as we could see, at women from early twenties onwards
The content is aimed, so far as we could see, at women from early twenties onwards with an emphasis on looking after homes and families and the problems that this brings.
As the website title hints, it is a site that provides, first and foremost, information and so the articles are informative in nature and, in our view, well presented, well written and well worth reading.
However, the lighter side is not forgotten and there are competitions, horoscopes, games and chat to help lighten the day. There is also a newsletter which we did not try but which may be worth a subscription.
Adverts are in evidence but are, for the most part, low key and unobtrusive and the navigation is so good that it is almost invisible!
All of the sections available from the front page contain good content that was worth reading and it is hard to single out a particular section for comment save that the recipe section is well worth a look. This section provides good quality advice and recipes suitable for a family, making it worth a bookmark in itself.
The best thing about this site and probably the best recommendation we can give, is to say that it does exactly what you expect it to do and does it effortlessly and with style. A definite five star bookmark for any women with a family and well worth a visit if you either will be, or were, in that category!
