You can hardly fail to have heard of CD Wow since they seem regularly to have been in the news in 2007, albeit for the wrong reasons.

The store, launched as long ago as 2000, sells CDs, DVDs and games.  Other goods are sold but mostly by firms using the site to display their own goods but more of this later.

The interface to the site is slick, pleasant and easy on the eye due, in part, to the unusual but extremely harmonising colour scheme.  Navigation is simply by using the menu tabs at the top or from the sidebar on the left.

Choosing a category opens a page to display the goods on offer, each of which has further details on a separate page that is a click away.  As shop interfaces go, it is a tried and tested model that works well.

The information given about the items is, perhaps, a little terse

The information given about the items is, perhaps, a little terse but is well presented and tells you everything you need to know.

To purchase an item you press the red 'Add to Cart' button beside it and the basket, with an easily seen running total, appears on the right.  Press 'Click to Checkout' and you proceed to a well designed checkout page that offers all the usual payment options, although not PayPal as far as we could see.

Delivery is free and dispatch (according to the Terms) is within five to seven days but in the UK items are dispatched within 48 hours.

Be sure, too, to check out the CD Wow blog available from the last tab on the right in the top navigation.

Notice that some of the pages on the right hand navigation tabs are used as a shopwindow by other firms to advertise and sell their goods which shows what could be a growing trend in online retailing.

The site works well, pages loaded quickly and there were no problems on the occasions when we checked.  The overall impression is one of ease of shopping making browsing through the items on offer a pleasure.

If you read the newspapers you will know that CD Wow try their hardest to bring their products out at the best possible price and have recently been selling goods sourced in the Far East to do just that.  Following the recent court cases we are not sure if that is still the case but the prices seemed very competitive when we looked.
