Everybody knows and loves John Lewis on the high street but how does it fare now as an online shop?

The original John Lewis began with a single shop in 1864 but we had to wait until 2001 for the launch of the internet store.  Since that time, however, the online store has established itself as a major supplier of goods to the UK.

Open the page link above and you will find a clean, purposeful site with the main categories of goods along the top of the page and, below the main picture, boxes containing useful quick links.

This is a site meant for serious shopping, choose a category from the top navigation bar to reveal a hidden section with further subcategories making it easy to go to the section you want.

From this section page with its special offers or 'bestsellers'

From this section page with its special offers or 'bestsellers' you can drill down still further in a traditional left hand menu until, finally, you arrive at the page with the goods.  These pages are simple, even traditional in style, meaning you can quickly click an item for more details and, if you like what you see, add it to your basket.  Adding items to the basket produces the familiar checkout routine.

At the bottom of each page are useful quick links yielding offers and detailing the 'most searched for' items and the information presented is logical, well laid out and enticing.

But this clean, almost clinical site with its easy-loading pages belies the sheer quantity of goods on offer.  This can be appreciated, however, by choosing the 'A to Z product index' also from the bottom of the page menu.

There are more 'bottom of the page links' that take you to a useful store finder and give access to the terms and conditions and also the privacy information while, on the right hand side, you can read about delivery, order tracking and their returns policy.

Delivery arrangements vary, when we looked delivery was free, but usually this is only so on orders over £100.

This is a site that makes shopping easy and fun and is what online shopping is all about.  Although vast, it is simple to navigate, contains a wide range of goods and appears to work quickly and efficiently even on our old machine.  It provides a good shopping experience and, as such, a visit is highly recommended.
