We saw a good understatement the other day - someone had written that the number of blogs was steadily increasing!  We'll say it is!  It's more true to say it's increasing so fast that we've actually lost count of how many there are and new blogs now hit the 'net faster than rain in the British summertime!  The increase in the number of new blogs is exponential.

But that's why we need a directory like blogCatalog.  This site does what you expect, it has lists of blogs arranged by categories to enable you to easily find what you want. 

We've just written an article about online blogs or diaries and how interesting they are - if only you can find the ones that don't simply relate what the blogger had for dinner or saw on the way to work.  So, let's use blogCatalog as a directory to see what personal blogs we can find.

Open the site so that you can follow along and look at the main page.  It's exactly what a main page should be, it tells you what the site does and then just goes on to do it.  Read the top and then look at the blog categories arranged in cloud format below.

If you have trouble with the cloud, you can always choose the more traditional format from the top right of the box that holds the cloud.  This takes you to a nicely laid out directory where you can 'drill down' to find the blog you want.

We chose 'Personal' from the cloud and, from the menu on the resulting page, we selected 'Relationships' and were rewarded with a good selection of blogs to consider.  The first thing you notice is that it's not that obvious how they are listed but we suspect it's on popularity.  Certainly, the listing contains a lot of blogs and is well worth a slow look through and a bookmark for the likely ones.

Available from the menu at the top of the page are 'Groups' which contains a good selection of blogs arranged by group.  Select 'Personal Blogs' (you can search on the right) and, again, you get plenty to look through.  In addition, 'Groups' has a wide range of subjects well worth checking.

Back at the main page, the 'Discussions' section seemed well supported and, to be honest, looked well worth exploring if you allow an extra half an hour or so.

We thought blogCatalog was very good.  We found plenty of what we wanted and so we offer the site to you for exploration and think it is well worth a bookmark.
